The Plaid has its origin from the beginnings of kilt wearing.  The first style of kilt was called the “Great Kilt”, and was basically a piece of tartan wool laid out and hand pleated.  When belted, the extra material was then pinned to the shoulder.  When kilts evolved into their present form,  there was no extra material  to pin and adorn over your shoulder.  Today, 3 different fashions of this early style exist.:

-The Fly Plaid, which is a single cut of cloth ( About 4 X 4 foot)that is fringed and pinned to the left shoulder.

-The Lairds Plaid, which is a longer piece of tartan that can be wrapped around the chest and over the shoulder. -

Regimental Full Plaid, which is a formally pleated wrap that is pinned to the shoulder by broach (Regimental plaids are standard for military parade dress).  We are proud to be one of the few establishments that offer all 3.
