Thanks to kilt makers Bob Martin, M.A.C. Newsome, and Lady Chrystel the world has been re-introduced to a style of kilt that was once normal fare in the Highlands. Historical records, including actual kilts made in the 18th century that survive today in Museums, were box pleated.
The Box Pleat uses 4 yards of wool instead of 8, and the pleats are “boxed” instead of knife pleated as is seen today in traditional kilts. By nature, the box pleat is bigger than a knife pleat (Resulting in fewer pleats), but the feel and effect of the box pleat is incredible. Suitable for year round wear, their lighter weight makes them an excellent choice for active kilters and those wanting a really unique, traditional look (but without the weight of an 8 yard wool kilt).
Our Box Pleat kilts are made of premium 16 Oz. Scottish tartan wool that is machine stitched to perfection, and come with a 3 buckle enclosure and fringed apron. At this time, we only pleat to the stripe or line in this model. You will marvel at how comfortable this older, traditional style kilt feels!! We offer this price for most any tartan available-
